If you want to make money with blog marketing, you need to blog about something you love.
You might think sentiment seems misplaced in the otherwise mercenary world of internet marketing. Why would your feelings make a difference? It’s really just about finding a good niche with the right numbers, right?
No.
Again and again we’ve noticed that marketers who really care about their niches make more money than those who don’t. There are good reasons to choose a niche about which you feel passionate. Let’s examine a handful of them.
First, if you love your niche, you’re far more likely to create content that will appeal to readers. If you know and care about a topic, you’re less likely to produce factually inaccurate material. You’re also more likely to supply content that connects with the audience. When you’re passionate, you’re simply a better all-around blogger and you’ll be better able to make money online.
Second, you’re much less likely to abandon a project if you care about the subject area. Motivation is a critical part of internet marketing success and it’s much easier to find the motivation to work on a project that interests you than it is to labor on something that bores you to tears. Blogging isn’t something you can just do once before moving on to something else. Success in blogging hinges on seeing projects through over a longer period. Failing to consider your passions can prevent you from seeing your blogging efforts through to the point of completion.
Third, making money in a niche you love opens doors to other opportunities. If you’re passionate about your niche, you’ll find new and exciting ways to expand your business that might otherwise pass unnoticed. You’re not likely to spot ways to improve the profitability of your widget blog if you don’t really care about widgets. You’ll overlook opportunities to interest, excite and motivate your readers. You just won’t see all of the possibilities if you’re bored with your niche. If you’re actually passionate about your niche, you’ll naturally discover new ideas and ways to improve your blogging business.
Fourth, it’s more fun. It’s just more enjoyable to work with your passions. We all want to start making money online with our blogging. That doesn’t force us to think exclusively about monetary issues, however. There’s nothing better than actually enjoying both your work and the money it generates.
Consider your personal passions when choosing niches for blogging. Go beyond simply getting rid of options that are patently unappealing. Make a real effort to hone in on your personal passions. Blogging about things you love is a great way to improve your business on multiple levels.
