Don’t Go Broke Trying to Build an Online Business

Spending the Big Bucks

How often are you purchasing ebooks, strategy guides and software to build you IM business? Are you spending cash hand over fist in pursuit of an ideal approach to implement your business idea? Do you have a habit of buying everything you can, hoping to find the one last piece of your profit puzzle?

If you’re spending a fortune on your business, you’re not the only one. Countless people find themselves buying the latest and greatest new systems.

There’s nothing wrong with that, either. It’s perfectly reasonable to purchase new products and information to refine your already-successful business. Investing in new materials to stay on top of a quickly developing industry is reasonable. However, there is a problem with running on the BUY NOW treadmill if you’re not making any money.

There’s a significant difference between trying to stay on the cutting edge and gambling on every possible tool in hopes of making a business work.

You want to be the smart investor. You don’t want to be the person who’s spent $40,000 on IM products and still isn’t making regular sales.

The Right Kind of Purchase

So, how do you avoid becoming the wrong kind of serial buyer? It starts by building a rock-solid foundation. If you look at the core of Internet marketing, it’s really rather simple.

You need a product to sell. You need a way to sell it. You need a way to generate traffic to the site from which you’re making that sales pitch.

That’s IM in a nutshell. All of your efforts should relate to one of those basic needs.

As such, you need to focus on building strength in all three areas. Anything you buy as you’re building your business needs to address the construction of that foundation.

You must have a foundation that let’s you make money from home before you invest in extras, details, tricks or adjustments. When you have a foundation in place, you will make money. Then, you can pay for those new products with house money instead of digging a hole for yourself.

Smart Foundation Building

Getting the core of your business in place doesn’t require a massive investment. Here’s a great approach to getting the job done.

  • Develop a holistic understanding of Internet marketing. You can get that kind of perspective from someone with successful IM experience.
  • Focus on ways to boost traffic. Traffic is, as noted, one of the core elements to a successful online business. It’s arguably the most important component. Until you have adequate traffic, you won’t be able to find out if your products are attractive or if your copy is converting. You need to put eyeballs on your pages right away.
  • Find a source of ongoing assistance. An ebook can be great. Solid tutorial videos are a great idea. However, there’s nothing like developing an ongoing connection with a coach or mentor who has a history of success and a willingness to show you the ropes. Good mentoring increases efficiency, makes it easier for you to build a foundation, and allows you to avoid common mistakes.
  • Minimize your exposure. You want to meet your objectives without risking significant losses. Look for opportunities to secure the right information at a reasonable price. Look for a business coaching program or mentoring arrangement that doesn’t cost more than you can afford.

Interesting mish-mash of observations about IM. All of them are true. I hope that a few newbies stumble onto this and that it inspires them to dig deeper for actionable information.
